I couldn’t believe it when I realized how many women don’t know anything about their pelvic floor. I was stunned when my mom so casually said that leaking after babies was totally normal. My sister stopped running after she had her first baby, because well she would leak too. I didn’t realize it back then, but now I know its not normal. It’s very common, but should not be happening. Ladies! It’s time to get with it and start educating ourselves (since it’s clearly not being taught to us) about our pelvic floor health.
What is the pelvic floor? It is a group of muscles that lay deep within your core that help support your abdomen and pelvis. There are specific activation techniques and exercises that help you to engage these muscles and help them build up strength. This also helps with bladder control, flattening your lower stomach, and even has benefits when it comes to sex.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a series of workouts that you can do to help strengthen your pelvic floor and regain your confidence. These workouts can be done by anyone! If you’re pregnant, postpartum, or never been pregnant you can and should be doing these workouts if you are a woman. Period. Each week will be a more advanced variation of the previous weeks exercises.
