New Year, Health FIRST

With the new year well underway and trekking into the first full week I wanted to share some of my best practices and tips for how I stay on track with my nutrition.

Firstly, I want you to see that this is truly a lifestyle that I live and not some quck fix or fad diet. I am all about showig other women what it looks like when you live a life of health. I like easy things that are quick and simple along with actually being enjoyable. Like my fitness routine if my nutrition is not something I can continue to do then I won’t want to keep doing it. End of story.

So, here we go!

Tip #1: If it’s not in the house I can’t eat it.
Meaning, I limit the amount of junk food I purchase and put it into my plan of action for the week. This way I know I have it for when I want it, and I don’t deprive myself of the occassional cravings I get.

Tip#2: Healthy swaps for foods I already love.
Example: I love spaghetti. Like LOVE spaghetti. I’m not ever going to give it up. Ways I make it healthier you ask? I make my own sauce, I swap out ground beef for ground turkey, and I use whole wheat noodles.

Tip #3: Find things that you ENJOY eating that are healthy.
Let’s face it we need to eat vegetables. If you’re an adult and saying “but I don’t like vegetables” there used to be a time that I didn’t like wine (*GASP*) but guess what I love it now and it’s the same with vegetables. We acquire a taste for these things and learn how to broaden our horizons, or tastebuds, as we get older. This is something you need to do to live a healthy life. End of story. Vegetables are where its at. Find some that you love. I have really grown to like cucumber, I slice them up squeeze some fresh lime juice on the slices and sprinkle tajin over the top. DELISH.

Tip #4: Focus on adding in healthier choices rather than taking things away.
Focus on drinking more water, eating more veggies, and I swear the rest will follow. If you focus on what you can add in rather than what you’re taking out it builds a more positive mindset around healthy eating and your overall nutritional approach.

Some of my staple go-tos if you will. Every morning I have a Kodiak Cakes pancake. This week I’m stuck on the chocolate ones, but their buttermilk mix is amazing as well. Always have spinach in my eggs, and sprinkle some Everything But The Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s on top. Apples are an easy snack as well as oranges and bananas. My go-to for a sweet tooth has to be the Chobani Flip Almond Coco Loco, sooo good!
